My fellow entertainment fanatics,
You know how job interviewers love to ask you to describe yourself in three words? It’s such an inane concept, that an entire personality could feasibly be contained inside three words. But that’s what I tried to do here and this is what I came up with: Passionate. Shameless. Addicted. You’ll notice tabs to the right of this one that say exactly that, which outline how those words pertain to me. Read if you’re interested, but if not, here’s basically all you need to know …
My name is Danielle and I’m a journalist. I went to Lock Haven University of PA where I worked hard to achieve my B.A. in Communication Media. I should have started blogging years ago, as soon as the college chaos faded and I suddenly found myself with a ton of spare writing time. But, truth be told, I fell into the same slump that so many graduates in my major do. We were thrown headfirst into an economy that was going nowhere fast and, for journalism majors, an industry that was struggling to remain relevant. Maintaining a positive outlook in the face of so much rejection straight after school, when the world was supposed to be at your feet, proved damn near impossible. And so I sank into a fairly deep funk for a couple years while I lived with my parents, worked in retail, and ate my feelings.
It wasn’t all bad—I managed to nab a pretty awesome internship with a travel mag in the city for a few months. It was a blast and a fantastic learning experience. About a year later, I moved back to the Jersey shore where I grew up and stayed there for a year as a freelancer for an online newspaper.
My resumé has been all over the place since I left my safe Haven, but that’s because I refuse to settle. I know who I am and what I was born to do, and even though I had to hit rock bottom to start reaching for it again, I know I’ll get there.
Anyway, what does that have to do with PSA?
You’re all familiar with the term ‘public service announcement’ …
Public Service Announcement—Messages in the public interest spread by the mainstream media without charge, with the objective of raising awareness and changing public attitudes towards a social issue.
Okay, so maybe pop culture doesn’t quite fit the bill here, but it felt very, “Extra, extra, read all about it!” to me, so there’s that, plus it fit with my three words.
For the most part, I will be ranting, hopefully daily, about my current pop culture obsessions. I’m big on binge-watching, so brace yourselves. More than that, I want to spark conversations. Entertainment lovers are fiercely loyal to their favorite things and I want to see those heated discussions happen here. Just keep it friendly!
I’m very happy with how PSA shaped up design-wise and I’ve already begun mapping out ideas for posts (aka PSAs from here on out) and I can’t wait to see the ripple effect as my blog joins the countless others floating out there in this crazy yet beautiful world (wide web).
